Jeff Warren

Jeff Warren holds an MSc from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a BA in Architecture from Yale University, and is the Co-Founder and Research Director for Public Lab. When Warren heard about what happened in the Gulf, he knew his experience in creating low cost sensors could help. As a creator of www.GrassrootsMapping.org, Warren designs mapping and citizen science tools. He flies balloon and kite sensors to respond to environmental pollution and degradation. Warren is a fellow at MIT’s Center for Civic Media, on the boards of the Open Source Hardware Association, the Alternative Education Program, Parts and Crafts in Somerville, MA, and of Personal Democracy Media's WeGov. As an advocate of open source software, hardware, and data, he works with Public Lab to develop new tools and techniques for measuring pollution that are cheap and easy to use for anyone. Jeff believes that in investigating pollution ourselves, and with our families, we are better able to understand and respond to it.
